Zero Childhood Cancer

ZERO CHILDHOOD CANCER PROGRAM

The Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO) is a world-leading personalised medicine program for children with cancer.

Through the collaborative efforts of dedicated researchers and clinicians, we aim to continually improve outcomes for children with cancer, to reach our goal of zero children dying from childhood cancer. Up to now, ZERO has only been available to children and young people with a less than 30% chance of survival. But by the end of 2023, all children diagnosed with cancer in Australia will have access to this ground-breaking program, irrespective of their cancer type, or prognosis.

Every child taking part in the program has a sample from their cancer sent to the Children’s Cancer Institute’s laboratories. Here, our researchers analyse the cancer on a molecular level to identify which drug or drugs are most likely to be effective against it. An expert team then uses the results from all these tests to develop a personalised treatment plan – a plan that is specifically tailored to suit that individual child.

Zero Childhood Cancer Wroldwide Cases

Worldwide, about 400,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year in children and adolescents

Zero Childhood Cancer

Cancer kills three children every week in Australia - more than any other disease.

Zero Childhood Cancer

70% of children who survive cancer suffer long-term effects from their treatment.

WHY IS ZERO SO IMPORTANT?

Just 60 years ago childhood cancer was almost always fatal. Today, thanks to medical research eight out of ten children will survive their cancer. But despite that cancer still kills more Australian children than any other disease – three children every week. ZERO exists for these kids. We aim to go from three to two to one to zero children dying from cancer. And with your support we know we will get there.

ZERO exists to give each and every child the best possible chance of survival.

THE ZERO PROGRAM’S CLINICAL TRIAL SUCCESS

Since September 2017, the Zero Childhood Cancer Program has been running a national clinical trial that includes around 650 children. Preliminary results show that we have been able to recommend a personalised treatment plan for almost three quarters of these children, in a turnaround time of only seven weeks.

Ellie’s story (see Ellie’s story: here) showcases the power of this amazing program – the power to save lives.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

We believe the Zero Childhood Cancer Program holds the key to saving the lives of all kids with cancer, and with the support of Bing Lee and their valued customers, we will cure every child. As leading philanthropic partners, we would be proud to have your family, employees and customers come with us on this journey.

The average cost for a child to receive this complex testing and analysis is $20K.

Time is critical, these are children with the highest risk cancers, who need the support of this life-saving program to give them the best possible chance of survival.

ZERO relies on the support of philanthropy and community contributions to keep going. There is still much that needs to be done to fund this clinical trial until completion. Your support is critical in making this happen.

Working together, we believe that you can help us get one step closer to making zero not just a number but a reality.
